Located within the precincts of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, the "Tsurugaoaka Museum, Kamakura" has opened a few weeks ago.

The original structure, the former Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura built in 1951, was designed by Japanese architect Junzo Sakakura (1901-1969), who was one of the nation's pioneering Modernists who had apprenticed at Le Corbusier's atelier in Paris.
The museum was renovated and reopened as a museum to exhibit the collection of Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine for transmitting the history of the shrine, stories of related samurai warriors, the culture of Kamakura, seasonal rituals, and more. Most of the displays have English explanations.
The museum overlooks a grand lotus pond with flowers that have just begun to bloom.
We recommend a visit not only to those interested in Kamakura but also to those ones who want to spend their time indoors quietly and peacefully when the weather is not so pleasant for walking around.

「鎌倉文華館」
鶴岡八幡宮の境内に、新しいミュージアムがオープン。
フランスでル・コルビュジエに師事した建築家・坂倉準三(1901-1969)が設計した建物は、長く近代美術館として使われていたもの。
鶴岡八幡宮が所蔵する資料の展示を中心に、鶴岡八幡宮の歴史、四季折々の祭事、鎌倉における武士政権の樹立の経緯などを紹介する施設として、リニューアルオープン。
目の前の蓮池では、花が咲き始めたところ。
鎌倉をもっと深く知りたい人にはもちろん、歩き回るにはお天気がちょっと... という時に、静かな時間を過ごす場所としてもおすすめです。
