Special exhibition on the most famous Buddhist sculptor of Japan, Unkei, is being held at Yokosuka Museum of Art 横須賀美術館 until Sep.4th.

Samurai warriors in Kanto region had been looked down as uncultured people by the nobles in Kyoto and suffered under them for a long time, but they finally gathered and united as one and caused a revolution in the early 12th century.
They established a new government for and by samurai warriors in Kamakura, and Miura Clan who was ruling Miura Peninsula at that time played a key role during and after the revolution.
This exhibition shows how Miura Clan played the important role in the Kamakura Shogunate through the Buddhist statues Unkei and his school created for Miura Clan and the shogun of the Kamakura Shogunate with explanation in English.
The admission includes the fee for two other exhibition rooms that exhibit the permanent collections, and I personally liked the black ink brush paintings by the young artist called Bunta Inoue @buntainoue.
If you have extra time, I would recommend you to visit other exhibitions too, and there is also a nice Italian restaurant @acquamare_yokosuka that overlooks Tokyo Bay.
